ABOUT MELK
In 2011, Dominique Jacques and Myriam Asselin embarked on a journey to open a restaurant; however, fate had different plans when a cup of extraordinary coffee crossed their path, swaying even Dominique, who had never been a coffee enthusiast, to open a café instead. After an extensive search for the perfect location, they discovered a warm and receptive community on Monkland Avenue in Montreal's Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, where they established MELK in 2013 as a third wave coffee shop.
As their business flourished, so did their aspiration to offer coffee that aligned closely with their values. Their quest led them to seek out responsibly-grown beans, and they found exceptional farms in Ethiopia, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. These farms embraced biodynamic farming, a holistic approach that prioritizes soil health and aims for self-sufficiency by continuously rejuvenating the land after each harvest. Determined to witness the process firsthand, the team embarked on a journey to Honduras, where they had the opportunity to tour one of their partner farms and observe each step in detail.
