ABOUT MELK
 
In 2011, Dominique Jacques and Myriam Asselin embarked on a venture to open a restaurant, unaware of the unexpected turn of events awaiting them. It was an extraordinary cup of coffee that crossed their path, captivating even Dominique, who had never considered himself a coffee enthusiast. This serendipitous encounter ignited a newfound inspiration, prompting them to pivot their plans and open a café instead. After an extensive search for the perfect location, their quest led them to Monkland Avenue in Montreal's Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, where they laid the foundation of MELK in 2013—a distinctive third wave coffee shop.
 
As their business flourished, their passion to offer coffee deeply aligned with their values grew exponentially. This fervor propelled them on a journey to source responsibly-grown beans, eventually discovering exceptional farms in Ethiopia, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. These farms embraced the principles of biodynamic farming—a holistic approach that places emphasis on soil health and strives for self-sufficiency by nurturing the land after each harvest. Driven by their unwavering determination to witness this process firsthand, the team embarked on a remarkable expedition to Honduras. There, they were privileged to tour one of their partner farms and closely observe every step of this intricate and sustainable farming practice.
