What’s MELK’s story?
Our main goal was to democratize specialty coffee, to open a '3rd wave' cafe where everyone would feel comfortable, not just the initiated. We now have four wonderful branches in Montreal where everyone feels good; customers and employees.
Why did you choose coffee? In 2011, we drank real good coffee for the first time. We then canceled our plans to open a restaurant and trained with Gwilym Davies the 2009 WORLD BARISTA CHAMPIONSHIP winner at his training center at the Prufrock Café in London. We didn’t understand anything he was explaining to us…. But at least we were on the right track!
What’s your "Tt factor"? Our real intention is to do the right thing for the environment. We are the only Canadian roaster to be certified organic and biodynamic. We work in direct relation with a factory in New Zealand which manufactures modular bags in a garden bin. We also work very hard to make our coffee delicious in your home, in your machine, not just in our cafes.
