Named “Los Milagros” (The Miracles), Mario and Angelica’s farm has been a miracle for them because it helped their family earn a living. Besides coffee, they also grow vegetables like carrots, cabbage and potatoes, but are transitioning toward greater coffee production. According to them, that type of production is better for their land.
Gold Mountain Coffee Growers started working with Mario and Angelica this year. The company, in addition to having its own farm, works in connecting producers from Nicaragua with roasters all around the world. It also has social and environmental sustainability at heart: it offers technical support to its members and works on multiple sustainability projects in the coffee communities, like the access to microcredit and medical assistance, free computer classes for girls, running water in schools and educational supply.
Interesting fact: Gold Mountain Coffee Growers bought a neighboring tropical rainforest solely to protect it and its wildlife!
