DESCRIPTION
Francisco Giraldo grew up growing coffee alongside his father and he chose to continue the legacy at El Edén after his father passed away. However, his commitment to the coffee was tested in 2009 when he fell victim to a landmine. Lucky to escape with his life, he lost one eye as well as his sense of taste and smell. However, his dedication to his coffee never faltered. Now with help from Juan Carlos Arango, and his team at Arango Specialty Coffee, Francisco can continue to follow his passion.
This is the second time that Kittel has purchased a lot from Antioquia. This region of Colombia is known for its beautiful landscapes as well as for its excellent small coffee producers. It is also a region with a turbulent past. In 1988, Time Magazine considered its capital, Medellin to be the most dangerous city in the world, a reputation that has only begun to change in the past decade. For the farmers of the region, the danger is not yet completely averted, but with the help of importers such as Arango, they can still produce excellent coffees such as this batch of El Edén.
